Corsair’s K70 RGB MK.2 mechanical keyboard has become well-regarded for its feature set, its design, and also its durability. Now, that same plank gets a low-profile infusion, thanks to CHERRY and its MX Speed and Red low-profile switches.
I am in the middle of testing the Speed version of this keyboard, and so far have good first opinions. Compared to the MX Blue switches I had been using before, this K70 low-profile is much quieter. It’s a difference of someone being able to hear me type if they stand outside the door, to not being able to hear anything at all. Yet, it’s still comfortable to type on – I don’t feel like I’ve “lost” anything with the reduced height, though that change is indeed noticeable.
If this keyboard is equipped with regular-sized CHERRY MX switches, its height is 40mm. That drops to 29mm when the low-profile switches are used. That of course means the key caps themselves are also low-profile, which helps them sit almost right on top of the LED to produce bright, uniform color.
The Speed switches come with the “RAPIDFIRE” version of the keyboard, which results in an actuation distance of 1.0mm. That’s compared to 1.2mm on the Red version of the plank. The Speed version happens to be exclusive to Corsair, much like the original Speed was when it first launched.
Other features of this keyboard include a removable palm rest, onboard storage, a USB 2.0 passthrough port at the back, per-key backlighting, a durable aluminum frame, and a few dedicated buttons for control of both your media, and your Win lock.
As mentioned before, I am currently testing this keyboard’s RAPIDFIRE version, and expect to get a review up in the coming days. If you couldn’t care less about my opinion, then I appreciate your honesty, and will tell you that you can purchase the keyboard right here.
