Power supplies are rarely thought of as the sexiest or most attractive part of a PC. I mean, sure, some of them have things like a bling-tastic LED fan. But only kids and gamers love that kind of thing, right? Just speaking for myself, in my personal rig, I use single-braided cable extensions because, well, my stock cables are just so meh.
Corsair, though, looks like it’s out to blow people’s minds. With its newly-released AX1500i, the company seems determined to prove that PSUs can be just as exciting as any other component in your PC.
The AX1500i excites me because it’s got all sorts of features PSUs I’m familiar with simply don’t typically have. What are we talking about here? How about a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) which controls the unit’s power output, resulting in superior DC voltage output regulation and top-notch stability? I guess the “i” in the AX1500i’s name stands for “intelligent.”
You want more? The AX1500i is also the world’s first 1500 watt PSU rated to meet the 80 Plus Titanium standard by virtue of being able to deliver power at over 94% efficiency. What this ultimately means is two things: Not only will the AX1500i waste less energy and produce less heat, its hyper-efficiency should also result in a savings you can actually see in your power bill (compared to a less efficient design).
Still not enough to get your heart pumping? Well, not only is the AX1500i monstrously powerful yet amazingly efficient, it is also whisper-quiet as well. Its 140mm Dynamic Fluid Bearing fan ensures super-quiet operation even under duress.
Plus there’s the fact that users can load up on GPUs (there are eight PCI-E power connectors). Nothing says sexy like SLI or CrossFire, with the tech lust factor only increasing with each additional GPU added to the mix.
Corsair’s AX1500i will be available in late May and is backed by a seven-year warranty. MSRP is $449.99.
