If you’re a Borderlands fan, you might soon have a reason to get excited: A ‘Remastered’ version could be en route. That’s if a listing that popped-up on an Australian ratings website wasn’t a complete error – and what’s the chance of that being the case? Before the listing was removed, it was seen to carry an MA 15 rating for strong violence and online interactivity.
I’m going to bet that Borderlands: Remastered Edition is a real thing, but what I can’t bet on is whether or not it’ll be released for the PC. Because the latest crop of consoles lack backwards-compatibility, many game publishers have released remasters of popular last-gen titles – Grand Theft Auto V being a notable one. For that reason, it seems extremely likely that the original Borderlands will hit the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Borderlands for the PC
There are other possibilities. Since Borderlands 2 isn’t available for current consoles, it too could be included in this bundle. That’s if 2K Games decides to sell this as a retail game – a remastered original Borderlands won’t be able to easily command normal game prices, but a collection could if the sequel was included.
While I’m sure the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be the main focus here, it wouldn’t surprise me too much if the PC did get its own version. That’s simply due to the fact that the original Borderlands engine isn’t as good as the one seen in the later games, and it might actually attract more players who’ve ignored it because of that.
That all said, the success of a ‘Remastered’ version might hinge on whether people are truly fed-up over what many consider to be lacking value in the Pre-Sequel. We’ll have to wait and see. Either way, I am interested to see what becomes of this.
