Dell has just updated its business-targeted Vostro line with the 14 and 15 3000. As the names suggest, there’s a 14- and 15-inch model available, with a range of different configurations for each. Whereas the Latitude series focuses on cutting no corners, Vostro is designed to deliver a well-built, dependable, and fast notebook for business users at affordable prices. Consequently, both the 14 and 15 3000 begin at $349.
Dell says that both the 14 and 15 3000 models are under 1″ thick, and that both support up to a Core i5 processor from Intel. For those who might want a discrete GPU, NVIDIA options are offered, but as far as I can tell, it caps out at the 820M – not a gaming card, but more than suitable for light tasks. Both notebooks can be further configured to have up to 1TB of storage and a 1080p display (stock is 1366×768).

On the topic of battery-life, the 15 3000 is said to last up to 8 hours and 42 minutes, while the 14 3000 gains 18 minutes to sit at an even 9 hours. While it might be difficult to gauge from these images, the 15 3000 actually appears to be a wee bit slimmer than the 14 3000, and overall looks more attractive.

To help make these new Vostros easier to carry in your hand, their covers feature a micro-stripe design that also helps protect from scratches better. Interestingly, while a maroon-ish color chassis is seen in the shot above, neither Dell’s press release nor the actual website seems to acknowledge it. Perhaps it will come later.
Either way, these new Vostros look quite good, and their starting price of $349 is attractive. If you want one, you can pick one up now at Dell’s website.
