Destiny 2 Currently Available For 35% Off (PC), With Free Trials Hitting All Platforms Tomorrow

If you’re finding yourself to be feeling a little Guardian curious lately, you may be interested in knowing that Bungie has conjured up two plots to get you to buy its latest game. I am not sure when the sale began, or when it’s going to end, but currently, the game is on sale over at Blizzard’s online store. If you really want it, I’d recommend not wasting time, since I have a gut feeling the sale will end tonight.
A sale at this point is interesting for a couple of reasons. On one hand, the game released on the PC only a month ago, so 35% off this quickly stands out. It especially stands out at a time when a fair chunk of the game’s playerbase is pleading with Bungie to fix some of the game’s biggest wrongs (which is apparently coming), but hey – if you know about the current crop of caveats, 35% off can help lessen the sting (note, I say this as someone who’s put nearly 200 hours into two versions of the game, so it’s not as though I can say it doesn’t hold value).
Announced today, Bungie is going to be kicking off a free trial of the game tomorrow on all three of the platforms the game’s available on. What’s not known is pretty much any detail beyond that, such as how long the free trial will last, or if it’s permanent, just limited. The description to the trailer above:
So, you’re new to Destiny 2? Enjoy the free trial and jump into the cinematic campaign on your own or with friends. Want to battle other players? Enter the multiplayer arena and put your skills to the ultimate test. Carry over your progress from the trial with purchase of the full-game.
It sounds like the trial won’t limit players too much; at least, you’ll get to enjoy both PvE and PvP experiences. It’s worth noting the original Destiny also had a free trial, but it was available from launch. The fact that one exists now for Destiny 2 could be read many different ways. I read it as a bit of a strange move, only because we’re on the verge of learning about important improvements coming to the game (via a livestream coming later this week), so I’m not sure why Bungie is so eager to have more people jump into the game right now.
Conversely, a free trial is not going to expose end-game flaws, so Bungie could be relying on that for now, while hoping to get these much-needed end-game/QoL updates out-the-door by the time new players reach what’s effectively the “end-game”.
My personal suggestion right now is that if you are impartial to Destiny in general, and you just want a new shooter to play, you should hold off on a purchase for now – unless all you’re looking for is a really casual experience. Anyone who’s indifferent to the series but still wants to try it out at some point would be better off waiting so that they can begin the game without all of these niggles. I eagerly await what Bungie reveals on its livestream this week. If you want to tune in as well, just hit up Bungie’s Twitch channel and subscribe.
