Upon hitting the first anniversary of Destiny on PC, Bungie apparently found itself feeling a bit generous. Or, a lot generous. Until November 18, anyone who’s never journeyed into the world of Destiny 2 on PC will be able to claim a free copy of the game.
Unsurprisingly, this free copy withholds the most recent content. What you do get is the base game, which includes an eight-hour campaign, a full PvP mode, and access to many other game features. That even includes the Leviathan raid. What you don’t get is the game’s first two expansions, Curse of Osiris and Warmind, as well as the brand-new Forsaken. Fortunately, once you own the base game, you can upgrade to Forsaken for $40, which includes all three of the expansions.
To claim your copy of the game, you’ll need to be using the Battle.net app, and then claim it as a free gift. It seems like a strange requirement (to me), but to take advantage of this deal, you’ll need to enable the SMS protect feature on your account – something you should do anyway.
Bungie’s not opposed to the idea of anyone taking advantage of this free offer to upgrade to the latest release, so it plans to whet peoples’ appetites further by giving everyone access to the Gambit feature next weekend, Nov 9 – 11. This hybrid mode involves battling constant waves of enemies, and gaining enough ground to send one of your team mates over to another team’s side, laying waste to those unsuspecting guardians.
There are many reasons why you should check this game out as a PC gamer. It’s one of the snappiest first-person shooters out there, and can be handled well either with a mouse and keyboard for intense PvP, or a gamepad if you want to kick back and mindlessly shoot all the things. The game performs great on any graphics card that could be considered modern, with the highest-end PCs able to push the game to 144Hz and beyond. Ultrawide resolution is even natively supported – and it’s not often we see that.
