I’m sure it’s clear by now, but we have two minds about DLC at Techgage. In some cases, DLC might offer some real value, but other times it can feel like nothing more than a nickel & dime scheme. In fact, I wrote an article calling it just that a couple of years ago. Some comparisons for “good” DLC and “bad” involve Borderlands and Civilization V. While Borderlands‘ DLC offered some serious content for the cash, Civilization’s in most cases offered little.
I’m sure we’d all be happy if DLC as a whole just disappeared, unless it was made all free. But it’s clear that’s not going to happen, so we might as well get a laugh out of it where possible, right? To help with that, a game called DLC Quest was born. Now, this game actually came out about six months ago, but as I am just finding out about it and find it to be utterly brilliant in concept, I can’t help but talk about it.
Essentially, DLC Quest is a huge middle-finger to companies who go overboard with DLC. In this game, you must purchase DLC (with in-game currency) to add animation to your character, add sound to the game, or even the ability to pause. Of course, there is DLC for other fun things too, like new outfits, hats and map packs. And like every other game out at the moment, you can even expect to see zombies (perhaps that’s even a DLC).
Yup, I’m buying this. Kudos to the dev for taking what all other gamers were thinking and making it into a hilarious video game.
