Steam has one of the most recognizable user interfaces ever – it’s clean, straight-forward in design, and dark. If you happen to fancy the idea of porting such aesthetic cues over to your operating system, and you happen to be running Windows 7, you’re in for a treat.
If Valve itself were to create a theme for Windows 7, I’d have to imagine that this is what it’d look like:
“Steam VS” is authored by yorgash, who welcomes both critique and donations for his efforts. To use the theme, you’ll need UxStyle or Universal Theme Patcher, and inside the package is everything you’ll need to see what you do in the above screenshot. An installation guide is also included for those not familiar with applying a custom theme to Windows 7.
Given the design changes in Windows 8, it’s unlikely that this theme would work with it out-of-the-box. Namely, the complete lack of a Start menu could cause issues. Otherwise, the rest might work just fine.
You can snag the Steam VS theme from yorgash’s deviantART page. Phenomenal theme overall – Valve should be proud.
