Duke Nukem Forever is a game that’s no stranger to controversy, and as it’s all been discussed to death, there’s no point of rehashing any of it. So, onto some fresh stuff! With the game finally coming out this May, Gearbox has begun talking a bit about the multiplayer modes, and in doing so has revealed some details that are sure to get some panties in a bunch.
In addition to the classic Dukematch and Team Dukematch modes, there’s also a “Capture the Flag” mode turned into “Capture the Babe”, where quite literally, your goal is to get into the opposite team’s camp, steal their woman, and then take her back to your own.
No big deal, right? Well, as someone who might not feel like being stolen, the woman you pick up might complain, and could make your life worse on your run back. The solution? Give her a little smack, of course.
In the grand scheme, this bit of abuse isn’t quite as offensive as most of the other elements in the game, but if there is one thing people against video game violence will focus on, it’s likely to be that.
In other related news, multiplayer looks like it will support up to 8 players (probably because the levels aren’t going to be huge), across four modes: Dukematch, Team Dukematch, Capture the Babe and Hail to the King (King of the Hill). There will be 10 maps at launch, and the jetpack makes a return. There is a lot more, but I recommend reading them at the source below.
Despite the controversy, this game is shaping up to be a winner. Let’s just hope it doesn’t smack us in the face.
As you kill other players you gain experience points, which, when acquiring enough of them, you can spend the points on customizing your Duke. Basic kills get basic points, but specialty one time achievement kills like killing someone when using the holoduke or funny kills like killing yourself with the pipebomb by accident, gives you bonus points.
