In the past couple of years, notebook PCs have improved in numerous ways. Namely, with a combination of price and performance. Not to mention features. When I think back to a $3,000 notebook I purchased in 2004, I can’t help but shake my head, because today, you can get a truly efficient notebook for less than $1,000 in many cases. Today, the value per dollar ratio is incredible… so does that mean that truly high-end notebooks are out of the picture?
Hardly, and if Canadian-based Eurocom has anything to do with it, we’ll never have to worry about that being the case. The company, which focuses on desktop replacements and mobile workstations, recently announced the ability to pack a few of its notebook models with not two, but four OCZ Vertex 2 480GB SSDs, in RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10 mode.
Think about that for a second. OCZ’s Vertex 2 drives are obviously super-fast, and in RAID 10, which EUROCOM is promoting, that’d be even more so the case. And because you’re using a striped and mirrored mode, you’d have a total of 920GB worth of super-fast SSD action at your disposal, and just the thought of the sheer performance causes me to stare into blank space.
Of course, with such performance comes a hefty price tag. For the SSDs alone, you’ll have to pony up close to $7,000 USD (there is obvious markup here… the same drives on the market are $1,200 a piece), and that leaves you with a $9,000 configuration if you don’t alter anything else (which is unlikely). Expensive, sure, but for the mobile road warrior, that sounds like a dream machine.
EUROCOM launches RAID 10 notebooks with superfast 480GB OCZ VERTEX2 SandForce-1200 Solid State Drives – Eurocom is announcing an addition to its already extensive list of multi vendor storage solutions with OCZ’s 480GB Vertex 2 SATA 300 2.5″ MLC SSD drive, product code: OCZSSD2-2VTXE480G. The Vertex 2 drive will be available in all Eurocom Mobile Workstations and Mobile Servers to offer industry leading SSD performance and capacity.
