EVGA, known primarily for its GPU, motherboard, and PSU product lines, jumped into the deep end of the gaming peripheral market last year with its interesting Torq X10 mice, which Techgage comrade Tom Roeder reviewed last year. If any of us thought that that would have been the full extent of the company’s assault into the gaming mouse market, we all should think again.
The company announced the release of four new members of the Torq gaming mouse family. Joining the Torq X10 and X10 Carbon are the X5, the X5L, the X3, and the X3L. All four of the new Torqs are 8-button ambidextrous mice with on-board storage capability for up to five profiles, as well as a polling rate of 1000Hz. Both the X5 and the X3 will have optical sensors (Pixart 3988 for the former, Pixart 3090 for the latter), while the X5L and the X3L will both have laser sensors (Avago 9800 for the X5L, Avago 9500 for X3L). All of the new Torqs will also have low-friction PTFE feet and will offer users the ability to customize their LED effects and button functions via bespoke EVGA Unleash software.
The two X5 variants will be equipped with Omron 20m mechanical switches (which are the same switch type used on the flagship X10), while the X3s will have Omron 10m switches. The X5L has a max DPI of 8200, while the X5’s is 6400. Meanwhile, the X3L has a 5000 DPI max, while the X3 tops out at 4000.
At this time, the X3L is a Best Buy exclusive, and retails for the same price as the X3 on EVGA’s site: $39.99. The X5 and X5L, meanwhile, are priced at $49.99 and $59.99, respectively.
