A couple of weeks ago, PUBG‘s 1.0 version was released, to some huge fanfare. That fanfare died down a bit after launch, due to a number of bugs that remained in the game (and some that seemed to be added in). PUBG is still a really young game, and it shows. Its developer is also spreading itself a bit thin, what with the Xbox platform recently gaining its own version, and a mobile game targeted at China is due to launch soon. Still, bugs need to get fixed.
Some of those bugs have been fixed in the first major patch to come to the game since the 1.0 release. One of the worst bugs to plague 1.0 is rubber-banding. Some players have even reported to have been teleported back 30 seconds of travel. That’s frustrating in any game, but in PUBG, it’s a problem that can wipe out your entire match progress in an instant.
As part of this update, PUBG‘s developers have “removed some inefficiencies in server infrastructure and optimized in-game servers to alleviate the problem”. At the map lobby area, where lag can be at its worst, the issue should much less noticeable now.
This patch brings other welcomed changes, including proper map selection ratios between Erangel and Miramar. It felt like the ratio was 10:1 before, but according to the developer, they’re equals now. This patch also extends the amount of time you have to wait before you can watch a killcam to 3 minutes. This is done to prevent you from being able to reveal enemy locations to your team mates… so, another unique tactic bites the dust.
Finally, this update also adds some bug fixes, which is appreciated since the game’s 1.0 version did little to improve the stability of the game. Your mileage will still vary, but our first couple of rounds with this patch seemed modest in terms of lag, so hopefully that’s a good sign.
