After what felt like an eternity of a wait, Valve has today released the first bit of DLC for Portal 2, and as promised, it’s free. There is a catch, though – it’s not that content-filled. In gist, the biggest enhancement has been the addition of a new co-op campaign which is rumored to last about as long as the original Portal. Single-player gamers are left out this time around.
However, if you’re the sort of person that loves to be challenged, then the appropriately named “Challenge” mode is for you. It essentially splits both the single-player and co-op campaigns into many pieces, allowing you to master certain areas. The better you do, the higher your score. You’ll be able to compare your performance to your friends, and the world.
For both the PC and consoles, this DLC is absolutely free. Through Steam, the update should occur automatically, while on the consoles you’re likely going to have to do a manual download of it from the respective marketplace, unless Valve released this as more of a “patch” than actual add-on content, which could be the case.
Still don’t own Portal 2? Until the 6th, Valve is offering the game at a mere $15. Yes, fifteen freaking dollars, for what’s a very fun, and very humorous, experience. Here’s to hoping that the next DLC will actually include something significant for single-player gamers!
