The latest title in the mainline Forza series has just released, and sticking to tradition, it’s simply called Forza Motorsport 7. What makes this release really special is that it’s the first full Forza Motorsport release that’s available for the PC. While the game likely runs at 60 FPS on the Xbox One (as Forza 6 did), PC users will be able to enjoy higher detail settings, and of course, higher resolutions.
Something I don’t think gets enough praise is that Forza 7 also supports crossplay between the PC and Xbox One, something that benefits you even if you don’t have any friends on the opposite platform. Like Forza Horizon 3, you’ll be able to compete against other players from both platforms, seamlessly and probably unknowingly. Don’t care about that? You’ll also be able to compete against both sets of players in any leaderboard. Crossplay is simply a beautiful thing.
With over 700 cars to collect, and over 30 environments to drive in, Forza 7 looks to be an incredible debut for the PC. So… what does it take to run it? As it appears, despite its beauty, the game can run great on mid-range parts.
AMD reached out with some data, showing that at 4K, RX Vega 56 can peak at 90 FPS, whereas the RX 580 will deliver an even 60. Given the price point of those GPUs, that’s pretty admirable performance (4K is no joke). At 1080p, the RX 570 and RX 560 will deliver 95 FPS, and 63 FPS, respectively.
On the NVIDIA side, I’d wager a GTX 1060 will be more than enough GPU up to 1440p, with the GTX 1070 and higher being suitable for 4K or ultrawide.
Having put a fair amount of time (read: I was an addict) into Forza Horizon 3, I’m quite looking forward to jumping into Forza Motorsport 7 soon. At least, after my addiction to Destiny 2 has subsided. Oh, what a great time of year for gaming.
