Earlier this week, Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition developer was forced to pull the game from Beamdog and also Apple’s App Store as the result of a “number of contractual issues“. For Baldur’s Gate fans, this is horrible news, as Overhaul Games had been planning to release a robust patch for the game, and also continue development on releasing an Enhanced Edition for the series’ sequel. Until these legal issues are dealt with, not even that patch can be released.
These issues also naturally prevent Overhaul from continuing work on its release of BG: EE for Android. The official Baldur’s Gate site goes into very little detail about the issue, but does state that anyone who’s already purchased the game will have no problem with re-downloading it. Currently, the game is still available for sale on Steam.
All fans can do at this point is hope for a quick fix of these issues, because Overhaul Games had plans to release a third game in the series, and clearly, that would have been awesome (especially given the real third version was scrapped). Fingers crossed.
