Futuremark has just updated its VRMark test suite with a rather significant addition: a DirectX 12 test. The new ‘Cyan Room’ complements the Orange Room (designed for hitting minimum hardware requirements of Vive/Rift), and Blue Room (forward-thinking, and thus very hardcore). You can run VRMark either on a monitor, or an HMD, and if you don’t currently own a license, you can snag a $5 copy over at Steam for a limited time.
The overall goals of the Cyan Room are to exhibit the potential of using a low-level API for VR, and also show what’s graphically possible. As expected, the test has no shortage of eye candy.
Given AMD’s huge focus (and prowess) in the DirectX 12 world, it wasn’t a surprise to receive an email from the company touting its strong performance in this test. Here are some results, per AMD itself (hi, Scott!):
I’ll be able to back this data up at some point in the near-future, but I don’t really suspect that AMD is fibbing its numbers here (it can be called out easily enough). Based on those numbers, I can attest that multi-GPU works just fine, as well:
With dual TITAN Xps, both GPUs were utilized around ~90%, so overall, solid usage. I can’t help but wonder what dual Vega 64s would deliver; it could technically match the TITAN Xp SLI, unless there’s something else I’m missing. Either way, very solid performance overall from the AMD camp.
If you want more results, you can stay tuned, as I’ll be delivering some as I continue clearing through one GPU configuration after another. Given how complicated it is to benchmark VR in general, this may be an easy and reliable go-to.
