If your workloads require not only a lot of memory, but a lot of crazy fast memory, then it’s almost certain that G.SKILL has exactly what you’re looking for. We’ve reported time and time again on the company’s latest and greatest kits, and things continue to become even more ludicrous – a great thing!
Now, G.SKILLĀ has managed to push its Trident Z series to 3600MHz. Sure – that’s not a record, but it is when we’re talking about 16GB modules that are part of a 64GB kit. And just because we’re dealing with super-high densities and frequencies here, the timings haven’t suffered at all: this kit is spec’d at 17-19-19-39.
The closest kit we could find to this on Newegg right now is the same version of this new kit, just a pinch slower (3466MHz). Interestingly, that kit, along with a few other similar ones, have tighter timings (18-18-18-38), so bumping up to 3600MHz does mean that you have to be fine with slightly worsened latencies. For most workloads that could actually take advantage of this kind of bandwidth, that’s probably a fair trade-off, though we’d wager that it’d be incredibly difficult to spot a real-world difference between this new kit and one that’s a mere 134MHz “slower”.
That aforementioned kit currently sells for $540, with other vendors hovering around the same price-point. We’d expect that the 3600MHz Trident Z kit will sell for a slight premium over that, as building modules at bleeding-edge speeds like this just isn’t easy (else these super-fast kits would be more the norm than the exception).
If you’re wanting the biggest, baddest memory kit out there, this Trident Z kit is expected to become available next month at the usual etailers.
