When I discovered Minecraft in its earlier stages of development, I was blown away by some of the things that people were building in the game. I hopped on and just messed around, but others were building some seriously complex buildings, landmarks, video game characters and so forth. And to think, that was just the beginning. Since then, some people with a lot of time on their hands have built things that are quite literally jaw-dropping.
An example of this is a scientific calculator created by YouTube user SgtGodswordBerserker. Thanks to special redstone circuits that exist in the game, gamers are able to construct not only objects, but objects that work. In the case of calculators, a lot of “circuitry” is involved, because it’s not the game or OS that calculates the result. Rather, it’s all the mechanics behind the calculator that makes it happen.
In the case of this calculator, the builder states that the entire thing spans 5 million cubic meters, and the sheer number of blocks behind its display is just… mind-blowing. It’s unlikely that the builder placed down each block by hand, but even with a generator, you have to know what you’re doing.
The calculator can of course add, subtract, multiply and divide, but that’s just the start. It can also handle trigonometric equations. To see the calculator in action is something to behold, and after watching the video, you might want to check out the user’s other Minecraft creations, some of which include a working printer/scanner, a speedometer, a binary to decimal calculator and more.
So next time you’re in the game creating your fancy house and chasing pigs around, just remember what can be done if you were so inclined.
