There are a billion (give or take) rumors surrounding Google right now, but one of the most interesting is the potential debut of its Android + Chrome OS hybrid OS called “Andromeda”. Over the weekend, Hiroshi Lockheimer, the SVP of Android and Chrome OS, took to Twitter to hint that this October 4 could become just as important as the day Android was released (eight years ago).
9to5Google today compounds some of the recent rumors, and gives the impression that October 4 could truly become pretty interesting. It’s been rumored already that a “Pixel 3” could feature Andromeda, but now, we see that Huawei’s next Nexus tablet could feature that OS as well.
Yes, “next Nexus”. While it’s been rumored that the Nexus branding was going to go the way of the Dodo, this latest report shows that it could still persist. There are not many specs to go on right now, but the rumor is that the tablet will come in at 7 inches, and sport 4GB of RAM. As 7-inches seems to be a “sweet spot” for tablets, and 2GB of RAM could be considered a little paltry, the rumored specs don’t seem too wild.
The Pixel 3 should prove to be the more interesting device, though, as it’s supposedly going to be an ultra-portable / convertible notebook targeting MacBook Pro users. How an Android + Chrome OS mashup could suit the “Pro” market, we’re not too sure. Fortunately, October 4 is right around the corner, so our wait to (hopefully) find out won’t be long.
