Google Introduces Its Latest Nexus Smartphones: $379 5X & $499 6P

Following a few months of massive hype, Google has today revealed its latest top-end Nexus smartphones. Proving a rumor correct, the devices are called 5X and 6P, and will cost $379 and $499, respectively. Both phones will include a 3 month free subscription to Google Play Music, and for US customers who pre-order either one of them, the company will toss in $50 worth of Play credit, allowing them to score some free apps or content.
To coincide with this announcement, Google has released a teaser video for each phone:
In-depth specs are scarce at the moment, so we’ll just have to settle with the minor details we’re given. The 6P is a 5.7-inch phone that features an AMOLED display and ppi of 518. It also features a high-end camera designed to take great photos in any light conditions (I am interested in seeing how it will compare to the iPhone 6s’ excellent camera). Its body is crafted from aeronautical-grade aluminum for a great feel and enhanced durability. I am not quite sold on the aesthetics of the phone’s back, but overall, it’s a sharp-looking device. It should be noted that the above-quoted $499 price is for the default 32GB model. By contrast, the $379 model ships with a mere 16GB.
And speaking of the 5X, that phone sports a 5.2-inch LCD display and the same (I think?) camera as the 6P. It includes a six-core Qualcomm processor, though its clock speed is currently unknown.
Of particular note is that both phones include a fingerprint reader, and rather than that be situated on the front, Google has dedicated space to it on the back. This will allow you to quickly unlock your phone with your index finger. As I recently posted to our Facebook page, a fingerprint reader is something I recently came to appreciate.
As you’d expect, both of these phones will ship with Android 6.0, aka Marshmallow. On a similar note, Google has also announced that its Nexus 5, 6, 7, 9, and Player will begin receiving the 6.0 update next week. Sorry, Nexus 4 owners.
