Since its release late last year, GoPro’s HERO4 camera has had a great reception – and it’s not much of a surprise. Who doesn’t like the sound of 4K @ 30 FPS? Or 1440p @ 80? Well, soon, there will be another reason to get excited about the HERO4: live-streaming.
In case it isn’t obvious enough, “live-streaming” doesn’t just mean something as simple as streaming the data over to a laptop for later use – it’s to stream live to the Internet. Want people to see you wipe out on your bike in real-time? Good, because that’s the idea.
To make this possible, GoPro has teamed-up with Vislink, a company responsible for live-streaming video in a multitude of situations – from military to sports.
A feature like this won’t come automatically, of course. It’ll require an add-on transmitter being developed between GoPro and Vislink that promises to be small enough to fit just about anywhere. We’re teased that we’ll be seeing the fruits of this collaboration in action at the Winter X Games in Aspen, as well as select AMA Monster Energy Supercross events.
Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, no pricing information has been released, nor has a release date. All we’re being told at this point is that we’ll be learning a lot more this spring.
