Now, everyone who hasn’t been living under a rock knows that the German company CHERRY is the world’s biggest and most popular supplier of mechanical keyboard switches. With the ongoing proliferation of mechanical keyboards, the CHERRY name keeps getting spread ever farther, ever wider. Most of the big hitters of the PC peripheral market space have a mechanical keyboard in its product line-up, with several having multiple models sporting various flavors of CHERRY’s MX switches.
What’s less well-known, though, is that CHERRY itself sells entire keyboards. It’s apparently content to not obliterate its clients in that market space, though.
However, the just-announced JD-0700EU (hey! I like its name! Reminds me of mine!) might just see CHERRY grab a much bigger slice of the pie.
Why? Well, the JD-0700EU is a wireless mechanical keyboard equipped with CHERRY MX switches! And, it’s made entirely by CHERRY! This all adds up to a fairly unique product. It is part of the JD-0700EU-2 wireless keyboard + wireless mouse bundle.
CHERRY might describe its new JD-0700EU in such prosaic, unexciting terms as a “Professional Wireless Desktop Keyboard for Entry Level Users,” but I think that it’s not a stretch to guess that it will still be a quality product. The company’s MX key switches, for one thing, are synonymous with quality, no matter the flavor.
Powering this new CHERRY offering is a pair of AA batteries, so replacing dead cells should be simple. It will naturally come with a USB nano receiver, which has a range of 10m (32.8ft). Expected power consumption of all three components of the bundle is typical 3 mA for the keyboard, typical 6 mA for the mouse, and maximum 35 mA for the nano receiver. It’s not quite clear how long the pair of AAs can stay powered up given these quoted expected power consumption estimates, however.
The JD-0700EU keyboard weighs in at a svelte 1.10lbs (502 grams) with batteries loaded, while the mouse weighs just .18lbs (85 grams).
CHERRY has not yet announced when it will have the JD-0700EU-2 bundle available for sale, nor its MSRP. However, since the wireless keyboard in particular is a bit of a rare bird, I’m sure keyboard enthusiasts will already be salivating at the prospect of getting their eager hands on it.
