Honda and NVIDIA are two names that don’t need any big introductions, as both are leaders in their own worlds.
However, the two industry giants announced a new partnership, as well as the birth of Honda Connect. Honda Connect is the world’s first Tegra-based full automotive infotainment system. Predictably, Honda Connect runs Android. The first versions of Honda Connect, which will be incorporated in the 2015 model years of the Civic, Civic Tourer, and CR-V, will run Android 4.0.4.
NVIDIA’s partnership with Honda is a natural one. “Honda is bringing NVIDIA’s advanced mobile technology to an important new segment of vehicles,” as Rob Csongor, vice president and general manager for Automotive at NVIDIA, says. “Inside these Honda models, the NVIDIA Tegra solution leverages Android to deliver an open, flexible infotainment platform. One that bridges the world of smartphone apps and the requirements of the automotive industry but, most importantly, does so in a way that makes driving safer.”
Honda Connect will be utilized in satellite navigation, AM/FM/DAB, rearview camera, and vehicle information display. Pinch and zoom, swipe, and other familiar Android interface actions will be incorporated into Honda Connect. The Tegra-powered system will boast a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, so users, primarily the driver, will be able to enjoy a vibrant and rich graphical experience.
Now… if only there was a way to incorporate Honda Connect into my own 2009 Honda Civic Si Coupe…
