G.SKILL is no stranger to pushing the envelope when it comes to memory, and today, it once again impresses. While most of us couldn’t even take proper advantage of 32GB in our PC, much less the 64GB that Intel’s X99-based motherboards officially support, G.SKILL has upped the ante and now gives us a 128GB option. And it’s a fast one, to boot (no pun), clocked at DDR4-2800.
You might have noticed that above, I said X99 motherboards support only 64GB – so where on earth can a kit like this be used? Well, surprisingly enough, G.SKILL proves that you can use 128GB on X99 boards, as it pulled the feat off using ASUS’ Republic of Gamers Rampage V EXTREME. It even has a screenshot to prove it:
What’s almost as impressive as the density to me is the fact that G.SKILL managed to keep tight timings of 16-16-16 on this kit. That’s an impressive feat considering the fact that CAS 15 and 16 are typical of modules one-fourth the density of these ones.
We don’t have pricing information available at this time, but it goes without saying: deep pockets will be required. Particularly deep pockets that have a lot of money in them.
