The Cloud headsets from Kingston’s gaming division, HyperX, have revitalized the gaming audio industry. Instead of going with style over substance with big plastic enclosures and BassBoostMegaExtreme 8.0 technology, HyperX went with a more sane solution of ‘make it sound good’.
The end result worked so well, plenty of other manufacturers ended up going the same route with the same OEM, and we now have gaming headsets that are not only comfortable, but sound incredible too. Gaming headsets didn’t have to sound awful anymore.
The one thing lacking from HyperX’s repertoire of headsets is a wireless solution, which is where the HyperX Cloud Flight comes in. It charges over USB and is compatible with both PC and Playstation 4s, but has an impressive battery life of about 30 hours. It’s a closed cup design with 50mm drivers, using the standard 2.4Ghz wireless range (likely bluetooth through a custom adapter). The mic is detachable and supposedly, the Cloud Flight can be used over USB directly, or via a 3.5mm jack – we’ll check this out when we can.
Also up for grabs is a pair of RGB infused peripherals, such as the updated Alloy Elite RGB keyboard. The keyboard is pretty much the same as the previous Elite with all mechanical keys with CHERRY MX switches (with the usual selection of Red, Brown and Blue), USB passthrough, and a steel frame construction (including a set of custom keycaps for WASD). Color control is handled with the HyperX NGenuity software.
Continuing the RGB theme is the Pulsefire Surge RGB, a 6-buton mouse with an updated sensor, swapping out the popular PMW3310 sensor for the newer PMW3389, capable of 16,000 DPI. It ties in with the NGenuity Software too, for RGB light customizing and macro recording.
You’ll be able to pickup the Cloud Flight headset for around $160 some time this month, and same again for the Alloy Elite RGB, but with a slightly higher price of $170. The Pulsefile Surge will be available in the second quarter this year (March onwards), for around $70. You can check out the full press release for more details.
