If there’s one peripheral vendor out there that’s become an expert at game-specific branding, it’s SteelSeries. I mean, just take a quick look here. Of all the games in that list, the hottest one of the moment is Dota 2. After all, this is a game that sees nearly a peak of 1,000,000 players logging in each and every day – and that’s a peak, not unique. It’s no surprise, then, that SteelSeries got on the ball long ago to give us some customized peripherals.
Today, the company unveils its latest – just in time for the final bracket of Dota 2‘s The International 4 competition. It’s based on the company’s mainstream Rival, an optical mouse that carries an SRP of $59.99. This special Dota 2 edition will carry a price premium of $10, giving us a final price of, *drum roll*, $69.99. What can I say? Basic math is one of my fortes.
There’s been quite a bit of modification done here to truly set this special edition apart from the standard Rival. For starters, the SteelSeries LED-backed logo at the palm has been replaced with a Dota 2 logo, and while that’s typically seen as red, users will still have the ability to choose between 16.8 million different colors. Further, the thumb rest and cable have been colored red, while the accent around the base looks like a blueish titanium. Finally, a Dota 2 imprint can be seen at the very back.
Outside of those tweaks, one thing this special edition can get you that the regular can’t is a special in-game item, called Hell’s Glare of Doom. I don’t play Dota 2, so I honestly don’t know what the aesthetic standard is for swords, but I do know for certain that this one looks bad ass (you can click the image for a slightly better view).
If interested in SteelSeries’ latest creation, you’ll be able to pre-order it at the conclusion of The International 4, and we’d suspect that units will ship not too long after. As mentioned above, it’ll be available for $69.99 USD.
