It doesn’t even feel like it’s been that long since Intel announced its partnership with AMD to deliver Radeon graphics on some of its SKUs, but here we are, not far from an actual launch. Korean tech site Playwares (via HotHardware) managed to snag one of the new Hades Canyon NUCs, sporting the simply named “Radeon RX Vega M GH” graphics, and based on first impressions, it looks awesome.
Does that not look like a small form-factor PC that looks like it’s ready to take care of business? Below, we get an even better look. What you’re looking at is the side of the motherboard that will face down, and just so happens to have the chips of interest situated in the middle. In this orientation, Intel’s CPU is at bottom, and AMD’s GPU up top (complete with 4GB of HBM2 memory). Here’s a cleaner look of the chip up close.
My brain doesn’t seem to want to accept the fact that there’s Radeon inside of an Intel chip, so this next screenshot just about blew my mind:
That’s AMD’s Radeon software, just kitted out with Intel branding. As simple as the aesthetics look, there’s something about it that’s attractive. It does well to complement Intel’s other software solutions, primarily on laptops, which is where these chips will also be found at some point in the future.
I planned to reference some performance data here, but as I was writing, the source article seemingly disappeared from existence (even though it was posted 4 days ago). What was seen, however, was undeniably solid performance for an IGP solution. Some could call it a last resort gaming chip, but depending on your needs, it may very well offer all that you need.
