It was only a matter of time. At Computex, ASUS unveiled a brand-new smartphone that targets those who can’t get enough of shooting themselves in the face. Err – taking photos of themselves. It’s called the ZenFone Selfie, so ASUS leaves little to the imagination when it comes to this smartphone.
The ZenFone Selfie becomes a certified selfie phone thanks to its use of 13 megapixel PixelMaster cameras at both the front and back. That alone wouldn’t sell this; what might is the dual-color, dual-LED “Real Tone” flash that helps capture natural-looking selfies in “gloriously” high-resolution. For low-light conditions, you’ll want to take advantage of the rear camera, as its f/2.0 lens will allow more light in.
The Selfie also includes what ASUS calls ZenUI Beautification, a mode that allows someone to quickly touch-up a photo – a la with digital cosmetics – to make sure that the photo they post to the Web for the world to see is truly looking its best. If you’re with a group of people, you might also appreciate the ability to capture panoramic photos up to 140°.
When not capturing selfies, users will be able to take advantage of a large 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display that boasts a 178° viewing angle and 403ppi pixel density. Utilizing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615, the ZenFone Selfie packs eight cores under-the-hood, which I’d imagine my selfie touch-ups could certainly take advantage of.
Release date and pricing information for ASUS’ ZenFone Selfie has yet to be revealed.
