A couple of months ago, we posted about comedian Louis CK’s endeavour of bringing his latest show to fans DRM-free and for cheap ($5), and overall, that move reaped some big rewards. Louis wasn’t just able to pay off the bill for the show, but got a handsome paycheck himself, gave some to his hard-working staff and the rest to charity. With such success, it’s no surprise that others have thought about taking a similar route with their next show.
One of those “others” is Jim Gaffigan, a personal favorite of mine. In an interview with TechCrunch, he admits to be following in Louis’ footsteps, and as such, his plan is much the same. This includes charity, although rather than donate after-the-fact, $1 from each $5 sale goes to the Bob Woodruff Foundation, a charity that helps wounded war veterans.
I’m sure I’ll post about Gaffigan’s show once it’s been posted, and I’m already certain that it will be well-worth the $5. TechCrunch’s interview with him is also well-worth looking at, but don’t expect a ton of laughs – it’s all business. To counter that, check out this clip afterwards.
