Kingston has just announced the release of two brand-new flash drives targeting businesses of all shapes and sizes. The IronKey D300 and D300 Managed are the first IronKey-specific releases Kingston has issued since it acquired the company this past February. With this release, Kingston builds upon IronKey’s legacy of building ultra-secure storage.
As far as security drives go, the D300 leaves no stone unturned. It adheres to FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification, sports 256-bit AES-XTS encryption, uses digitally signed firmware to prevent attacks from the likes of BadUSB malware, auto-formats after 10 incorrect password entries, and even has an epoxy internal seal that won’t keep a tampering attempt a secret.
The Managed version of the D300 requires the use of IronKey EMS, produced by DataLocker. This software allows IT managers to configure potentially thousands of these flash drives as needed. Select perks of this solution include being able to force a firmware update once drives are plugged in, monitoring drives out in the field, automatic inventory directory, and also the ability to disable or even destroy a lost device remotely.
Kingston offers its IronKey D300 drives in densities ranging from 4GB to 128GB. At the top-end, the 128GB drive boasts a read speed of 250MB/s, and write speed of 85MB/s. As the drives get smaller, their performance gets reduced as well, with the 32GB model still supporting 250MB/s read, but dropping to 40MB/s write.
Kingston’s press release didn’t include pricing, so we’ve reached out to the company and hope to hear back soon.
