Kingston hasn’t been in the audio game for long, but in the short time it has been, it’s managed to strike the right chord with gamers. Ever since the release of its first HyperX Cloud headset, the company has been delivering solutions that are priced right, look good, and deliver excellent audio fidelity.
All of the headsets Kingston has released up to this point have been usable on the PC and the PlayStation 4, but due to Microsoft’s lack of openness, the Xbox One has been left alone. That’s until now, that is, as the new HyperX CloudX is certified for Xbox One.
“New” might be a poor descriptor, though, as the HyperX CloudX is effectively a HyperX Cloud II that works on Xbox One (and PC, it should be noted).
Across a couple of demos, which included Halo 5 and Gears of War, we were left impressed with the clear audio and satisfying bass. With the built-in mic, which you can easily manipulate, tearing up digital worlds with your friends will be made quite convenient with this headset.
I mentioned above that this headset is essentially a Cloud II, but there is one addition: the HyperX CloudX includes a hard carrying case, helping you protect it during travel. This is a great touch, and one I wish more headphone makers opted for (I say this as someone who effectively hastened the death of an expensive pair of headphones due to a lack of a travel case.)
Oddly, the HyperX CloudX is not going to become available until “late Q2”, which tells us “Computex time”. Why the release will take so long given the headset is so similar to the Cloud II, we’re not sure. If you appreciate the headset’s aesthetics and want quality audio for a reasonable price, the wait might just be worth it.
