It might not be the most attractive flash drive out there, but Kingston’s DataTraveler microDuo 3C sure is flexible. Plus, it solves a problem. I think most would agree that USB Type-C is good – it shrinks the connector down, and lets us plug it in either right-side up or upside-down, resulting in much cooler heads. But, device support for Type-C is obviously limited, and thus, so would a dedicated drive for most people be.
The microDuo 3C fixes this problem by including both a Type-A and Type-C connector. Looking at the image below, it almost makes you wonder where on earth Kingston was able to fit in up to 64GB of storage. Performance-wise, this drive can read at up to 100MB/s and write at 15MB/s – it’s not the speediest drive out there, but what can we expect from something so small?
The microDuo 3C is going to be available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB densities, and it supports Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, as well as Chrome OS. We’re not sure when these drives are going to arrive, or what they’ll cost, but Kingston typically doesn’t take too long to bring products to market after a press release is issued.
The company also hints at an update to its DataTraveler Micro series which will add 3.1 support. That’s absolutely all of the information we’re given at this point, though.
