As we discovered last week (not that it was a surprise), NVIDIA’s new GeForce GTX TITAN X is a seriously powerful graphics card. At 4K, it actually allows you to max out the graphical detail in most games and get playable framerates, or let you decrease some of the more superfluous settings to attain an oh-so-cool 60 FPS.
Of course, as powerful as TITAN X is, it’s fun to dream about just how much performance one of them could push by way of overclocking. I’m not talking modest boosts, but those made possible with sub-zero cooling, something that’s right up Vince – K|NGP|N – Lucido’s alley. And since TITAN X’s launch, he’s been hard at work.
When I benchmarked TITAN X, I hit about 15,000 on 3DMark’s Fire Strike test. That’s impressive, but put a pro at the wheel with LN2 and a score like 24,027 can be attained:
Likewise, I hit 4,000 in 3DMark’s Fire Strike Ultra test, whereas K|NGP|N obliterated that to hit 6,134.
With the clocks pushing 2050MHz on the GPU, I can’t help but wonder where the top-limit on this thing is. Could we see 2,200? Time will tell.
