Who saw this coming? Out of nowhere, owners of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II saw an update come through their Steam yesterday, and like most updates that come out for old games, most people likely thought that it was a mere compatibility patch. Not so. This is a proper update to a decade-old game, and I’m sure it’s going to lead to many replays.
At the top, KOTOR II is now officially available to Linux and Mac OS X, supports 37 Steam achievements, cloud saves, different controllers (Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PlayStation), and even goes as far as to integrate with Steamworks. Plus, it supports both 4K and 5K resolution. Which game have you seen so far officially support 5K? I can’t think of one, yet here we have a 10-year-old game that touts it.
As a special bonus, the game also has an added menu option, called “Force Speed Effects”. Oooh.
Seriously, it’s amazing to see a classic game like this updated with all of these things. It’s worth noting that KOTOR II is not alone; POSTAL 2 still continues to receive regular updates as well.
