The Geneva Auto Show has seen many a Lamborghini world debut. My favorite, of course, is the 1971 show, when the mighty LP500 Countach first shocked and awed the automotive world.
Well, the 2015 show also has a Lamborghini world debut.
This time, it’s the hottest version of the LP750-4 Aventador, the Superveloce, making its first public appearance in Switzerland.
The Aventador Superveloce (“superfast,” for those of you not versed in Italiano) is, as you might expect, an Aventador on steroids, meaner yet a bit leaner than ever. The SV is faster than the standard car, but it is also 110 lbs lighter than the circa 4085 lb plain Jane Aventador. Lamborghini shaved weight by using carbon fiber on the doors, rocker panels, and fenders. The company also took the upgrade to SV spec as an opportunity to restyle the car. New scoops, a fully-functional rear wing (which contributes to a massive 170 percent increase in downforce, says Lamborghini), and other body panels have been reshaped not just for improved aerodynamics, but also for an even more aggressive look.
The 6.5 liter V12 gets upgrades too. The tweaked motor now produces 740 bhp at 8400 RPM and 509 lb/ft of torque at 5500 RPM. Allied to the aforementioned weight shavings, this super-fast new bull from Sant’Agata Bolognese should be able to go from 0-62 MPH in 2.8 secs (helped in no small part by the all-wheel drive system, standard on most super Lamborghinis since the original Diablo AWD from the mid-1990s).
Lamborghini says the LP750-4 Aventador SV will be available in late Spring 2015. The expected price for the latest from Sant’Agata is circa $500,000.
As if it was even possible, my Lamborghini-loving heart is beating faster than ever, even if there’s no chance I’ll ever own one.
