About a month ago, I decided to check out the Lavalys website to see if there were any newer versions of EVEREST available to what we were using, and was a bit surprised to see an overall lack of updates. I didn’t think too much of it, but apparently there was a good reason for it. Lavalys, the company originally behind the popular PC tool, is soon to be no more. But don’t worry, that doesn’t mean the end of the tool.
EVEREST as a name is as dead as the company behind it, but its lead developer, Tamas Miklós, has moved onto greener pastures and taken the codebase with him. The new venture, FinalWire, is based in Hungary, and the revamped program is known as AIDA64. Sound familiar? That’s because Tamas was the developer of AIDA16 and AIDA32 as well. So, the natural progression becomes AIDA64.
Like EVEREST, AIDA64 is an overall PC diagnostics tool, allowing you to monitor temperatures, voltages, performance, component information and so forth. As EVEREST has been a tool we’ve used in our labs since before Techgage even came to exist as a website, we’re likely to move over to AIDA64 in the near-future.
The debut price of AIDA64 is a bit more manageable than EVEREST, at $19.95 (it’s half-price… no idea how long that will last), so if you’ve wanted to own EVEREST for a while but were looking for a deal, this might be it. I haven’t given the tool a go yet, but will soon. Judging by the screenshots, it’s essentially EVEREST under a new name, so anyone familiar with one will be familiar with the other.
