It looks like Google could soon be splashing a fresh coat of paint all over its Gmail mobile app – if leaked screenshots can be believed, that is. I hope it’s true, because after looking at these screenshots, I want this update. It’s not as though the Gmail app is unattractive, but the modern aesthetic here appeals to me; I love flatness, and bright colors. An email client doesn’t have to be dull.
The rumored update involves more than just a prettier front, however. A couple of new features will be added, such as additional tabs. We’ve had Social, Promotions, Updates and Forums since last year, but Finance, Purchases and Travel are set to be added. In addition, a new pinning feature will allow you to peg an email to the top, while a snooze-like option will hide an email for a certain amount of time.
Overall, I’d welcome all of these features with open arms – especially the enhanced aesthetic. But, one feature I’m still waiting to see is a conversation view disable. Google, is it so wrong that I’d like to treat individual emails as just that: individual?
