A couple of months ago, a trio of games hit Steam’s database that shot a surge of excitement to PC fighter fans: King of Fighters XIII, the most recent release in SNK’s classic series, along with KOF ’98 Ultimate Match and KOF 2002 Ultimate Match. The PC has never been a great platform for fighter games, with Capcom being largely responsible for giving us some quality, so the hint of XIII hitting the platform was exciting.
With a leaked trailer (click on image above; can’t embed), we might as well consider XIII for the PC to be confirmed, as the video itself is on Steam’s website, and the end of the video refers to the game as being King of Fighters XIII Steam Edition. I’m so confident that this is real, that if I’m wrong, I’ll go back and force myself to play One Must Fall: 2097 for a couple of hours. Alright – that’s not much of a punishment.
The fact that the PC is going to be getting a KOF game is great, but better still is that it’s also likely to get the fantastic KOF ’98 and KOF 2002 titles as well. While these are largely regarded as being some of the best in the series, I think it’d be great if SNK brought more of the collection over as well, especially the pre-’98 titles. But that’s just me getting greedy.
Recent King of Fighters games have had notoriously bad netcode, so we can only hope that by some miracle SNK decided to improve things with XIII‘s release on Steam.
