When AMD launched its Radeon R9 270 last week, it at the same time updated its Never Settle Forever bundle. In doing so, it ruffled the feathers of those who purchased an R9 270 ~ R9 290X graphics card prior to the promotion’s update, because it in effect meant that they got locked out of a free copy of Battlefield 4. A big ouch, to be sure.
Due to business agreements with DICE and EA, AMD isn’t able to retroactively give everyone who purchased one of the now-participating GPUs a copy of the game, so it’s opted to do the next best thing: Offer up some copies to Facebook fans – 1,000 to be exact.
For merely “liking” AMD’s Gaming Facebook page, you’ll be automatically entered for a drawing to take place on or after December 2nd for a chance to walk away with a copy.
Admittedly, I believe that only those who purchased a participating GPU but don’t qualify for the game should be able to enter such a promotion, but in going this generalized route, it might feel like less of a slap in the face to those who feel like they are out a game. There was no perfect solution, for sure, and it’s unfortunate that AMD didn’t have its cards in order (pun intended) at the R9’s launching.
On the upside, there are 1,000 copies of a great game being given away, so for the rest of us, it’s hard to complain. Good luck to those who enter!
