According to results gathered via the Linux Foundation and Dice Holdings, Linux talent is in serious demand in the tech field, and having some can help you land a better-paying position. It’s stated that a staggering 81% of recruiters consider Linux experience to be a priority, and that more hires made within the next six months will cater more towards Linux talent than other things.
In the published report, it’s also being said that 85% of hiring managers find Linux talent hard to come by – something that intrigues me given the sheer amount of Linux found in IT environments. At the same time, about 1/3 of companies pay more for those with Linux experience under their belt.
So where has this demand come from? Of the over 2,000 companies interviewed, 48% stated that their use of Linux was growing and that in-house support is needed more than ever, while 30% claim that Linux has become the core of their business. In another upside for Linux, 27% of companies are working to transition over to the OS from others.
The report isn’t horribly in-depth, but it’s well worth taking a look at if you either work in the IT field or are planning to. Never hurts to brush up on your Linux skills, right?
