Logitech has just beefed-up some of its Harmony products by releasing a new update that introduces home automation functionality. The affected products include the Harmony Ultimate, Harmony Smart Control, and the Harmony Smart Keyboard.
Adding home automation to the mix greatly increases the overall flexibility of these Harmony products and helps make them become “do everything” kinds of devices. With this update, support has been added for Philips’ hue light bulbs (including Hue Lux), Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostats (RTH9590WF, RTH9580WF, RTH8580WF, and RTH6580WF), as well as Nest’s Learning Thermostat.
From Logitech’s lips: “After taking advantage of the optional software upgrade, you can use your compatible Harmony remote to automatically adjust Philips hue bulbs and your Nest Learning Thermostat, as well as control other connected home devices from Lutron Electronics, Honeywell, SmartThings, Rheem, PEQ and more. Plus, with the update, you can schedule your Activities to start and end automatically at specific times, control your Harmony through your smartphone or tablet while away from home, and use partner applications and products such as IFTTT.”
Overall, a solid, free update. As time goes on, and more and more home automation devices are released to market, I am sure Harmony’s support list will continue to grow ever further.
