“With the Logitech G305, there is no reason to game with a leash” may be one of the best lines I’ve ever seen in a press release. It of course relates to the very product mentioned: a brand-new LIGHTSPEED gaming mouse model from Logitech that brings ultra-fast wireless performance to the masses. With a no-nonsense high-performance design at $60, the G305 is quite alluring.
With LIGHTSPEED, Logitech claims that mice like the G305 will be faster than “most wired mice”, although I’d be personally very surprised if a gamer could spot an improvement from any wireless mouse over any wired, despite how much caffeine they drink. Still, after having tested Corsair’s 1ms Dark Core gaming mouse a couple of months ago, I’ve been very intrigued by the LIGHTSPEED series. Wireless isn’t perfect, and there are clearly solutions that don’t flesh out well, but Logitech’s isn’t one of them. In truth, I’ve actually heard more praise being shot at Logitech’s solution than Corsair’s, but to be fair to the Fremont native, it’s hard to compete with a giant like Logi.
Logitech’s VP and GM of its gaming division (and former NVIDIA marketeer) Ujesh Desai says, “Through our work, wireless has advanced to the point where esports pros are trusting our innovative technology and winning with our wireless mice. With the G305 we wanted to bring the same top-of-the-line technology to everyone.”
That sounds good to me. That essentially equates to a mouse with the HERO sensor, supporting between 100 – 12,000 DPI, acceleration up to 40G, and speed up to 400 IPS. Under-the-hood is a 32-bit Arm processor delivering the 1000Hz (1ms) response. As for durability, this mouse will last for 10-million clicks, while its PTFE feet can walk up to 250 kilometers before wearing out.
Overall, the G305 is a very simple mouse in Logitech’s lineup from a flexibility standpoint; it’s all about delivering ultimate performance at a reasonable price point. That said, all six buttons are configurable, though that includes the left and right clicker. It also includes the DPI switcher, and mouse wheel click – all of which can be configured through Logitech’s Gaming Software solution.
The G305 is available for preorder right now, for the aforementioned $60 USD ($70 CAD). There’s no hard launch date, but it’s going to be this month, and seeing as we’re already half-way through May… we expect the G305 to hit other etailers very soon.
