When Logitech unveiled its “G” lineup back in March, it became clear that the company was beginning to get serious about gaming. It’s not that Logitech had ignored gamers all these years – because that’s hardly the case. Instead, the company began to dig deeper into what it was that would produce the ultimate gaming peripheral, and as the company itself put it, a lot of “science” went into this lineup.
Fast-forward to today. On its official blog, Logitech announced two things; A) It’s once again sponsoring the League of Legends Season Championship, and B) it’s worked with the game’s developer, Riot Games, to increase the level of functionality between its flagship (and only, actually) game to make Logitech the no-brainer choice.
The team’s efforts resulted in these enhancements:
- All G-keys in our mice, keyboards and headsets are now selectable as bindable keys directly in the in-game interface.
- The multi-color LED lighting in our new Logitech G510s and G19s keyboards will switch to indicate the color of your team, including in colorblind mode.
- The Logitech G510s and G19s GamePanel LCD now displays constantly updating stats typically only available in the character subscreen, such as cool-down reduction, or stats not previously available, such as gold per minute. (As seen in the shot above.)
Cool stuff, and because anyone can access the SDK for the display on these keyboards, anyone (well, a developer) could code up a similar interface for their favorite game. If Logitech ends up making a mechanical version of its G510s or G19s, I think I’ll be getting a new keyboard.
