I can almost hear John Williams’ iconic Olympic Fanfare and Theme. It’s somewhat appropriate, given that the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics are just about to start.
Then there comes word of Logitech’s own unique celebration of the ideals the Olympic games are supposed to embody, namely, sporting competition infused with national pride and international harmony.
Breaking cover today is Logitech’s Global Fan Collection, a special edition of the company’s wireless M317 mouse. Basically, the Global Fan Collection is the M317 dressed in the colors and designs of fourteen different countries. Now you can express your love for your favorite country with your choice of M317!
Thus far, Techgage can confirm that the M317 Global Fan Collection includes USA, Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil editions. That’s four countries, with ten more yet to be announced. We will augment this news post with the complete list of countries as we have further details.
Now you might be thinking, “Wow, so it’s just a wireless mouse dressed up in national colors. Big deal.” Well, that’s reckoning completely without the M317’s own salient design features. Besides the bold, graphic designs of your favorite countries, the Global Fan Collection M317s also feature Logitech’s Advanced Optical Tracking, which endows the mouse with optimal control and enhanced precision compared to non-Logitech optical tracking designs. There is also the company’s Advanced 2.4GHz wireless connection which, the company claims, “gives you the reliability of a corded connection but with wireless convenience and freedom.” Spiffy! An On/Off switch helps increase the mouse’s battery mileage, as does as a smart sleep mode. Logitech even claims that the M317 can go up to a full year between a battery swap!
Then there’s the M317’s comfortable and ergonomic shape. Its ergonomics are also enhanced further by soft rubber grips and a smooth scroll wheel.
Finally, there’s the “Plug-and-forget” nano receiver. All you need to do is plug this little guy into a free USB port, and you’re good to go.
Logitech hasn’t announced precisely when the Global Fan Collection M317 will be available for sale at the time of writing, nor has it specified any pricing information.
Addendum: The original version of this story stated that the Global Fan Collection was based on the M235; it’s actually based on the M317.
