Logitech’s New Capture Software Takes The Pain Out Of Webcam Configuration

Logitech has been making webcams for as long as I can remember, and the more I think about it, the company has been a constant for me ever since I was a kid. If I had a webcam at any point in my life, it was Logitech. I even have a Logitech webcam right now despite almost never using it. It’s almost a ubiquitous piece of equipment, and perhaps at some point I’ll use it more if we ever do streams for some reason (it won’t be overclocking!).
While Logitech is no stranger to webcam hardware, the company has been pretty calm on the software front. The software that’s been offered with the company’s webcams has gotten the job done, but did little in ways of useful features. Logitech Capture changes that. This all-in-one suite allows you to configure myriad things relating to your webcam.
On the whole, Logi Capture looks great. It’s simple to follow, and offers a great deal of customization without having to dig into deep menus. Even being able to change the field-of-view on-the-fly is great – keep zoomed out for regular purposes, and then zoom into your face when the situation calls for it.
You can also choose whether or not the frame rate or exposure will be treated with higher priority, something that may change depending on whether you’re taking up the full screen, or just a corner.
There isn’t a ton in way of adding eye candy to a video feed, but you are able to choose a border with any color you want, something that could help it stand out easier when people scan over small thumbnails.
It might not be obvious to just look at, but the Logi Capture software emphasizes control on your entire operation. You’re able to record from two sources at once, and even include desktop recording (ideal for recording tutorials). There’s a chroma key option as well in case you want to use a backdrop.
Once you have Logi Capture setup the way you want (which could include having multiple profiles), you’re able to use a virtual camera inside solutions like OBS Studio, and in quick test, the result is exactly what I’d expect.
Overall, I am pretty impressed. Logi Capture isn’t the most advanced solution out there, but it’s a major step forward from Logitech’s previous webcam software, and will actually be useful to anyone rocking one of the supported webcams (which at this point includes C920, C922, and BRIO 4K). You can grab the beta version of the software right here.
