If you’ve been on the lookout for a new gaming mouse, it might be worth waiting another month or so for the release of Logitech’s G300, announced late last week. In both looking at the photos and the specifications, the G300 looks to be one of the better gaming mice released in the past year or more, and with a $39.99 price tag, it becomes all the more intriguing.
The G300 joins the ultra-small list of Logitech’s ambidextrous gaming mice, though unlike the others, it has no thumb buttons at all. This should be appreciated by most, as hitting the thumb buttons on either side sometimes can happen by accident, and as a current Logitech G3 user, I say this from experience. Another benefit of removing the thumb buttons is a more comfortable design, yet another thing I can say was lacking with the G3.
As a side note, the G3 in question is one I reviewed a staggering five years ago. It might just be the oldest PC component in my house that still works!
In addition to nice aesthetics, the G300 features a total of nine programmable buttons (or seven unless you have a reason to modify the left and right click functions), and thanks to on-board memory, the mouse can store three profiles. Each profile can be assigned one of seven colors, so it should be easy to keep track of which profile you configured for which game.
The G300 doesn’t boast the same insane number of features as some other recently-released mice, such as SteelSeries’ Sensei, but for $40, this looks to be one heck of an offering. It looks good, offers lots of flexibility and should prove equally comfortable for both right-handed and left-handed gamers. Let’s just hope the software matches up!
