Own a TRENDnet IP camera? You’ll want to head over to the company’s support section to see if there is an update available for your product, as a severe security vulnerability has been discovered in select models. So severe, in fact, that anyone who has access to your IP camera’s IP address can view the feed without a username and password.
It’s not safe to assume that just because the feed can be accessed without a username and password, it’d be unlikely that someone could discover your device’s IP address. The opposite is true, because simple port-scanning techniques could find such devices available to the Web in little time. What might you see on such cameras? Baby rooms, your driveway, your bedrooms (do I need to elaborate?) and so on.
TRENDnet’s support page lists a large collection of affected devices, though the company believes that the number of customers who’ve been affected by this vulnerability is quite low. Either way, if you own one of these, I wouldn’t waste time in updating its firmware.
