The Xbox One has no shortage of racing titles (Forza Motorsport, Codemasters’ F1 20xx games), but the platform hasn’t had a lot of options as far as racing wheel controllers are concerned. Certainly, there has been nothing available if you’re a Logitech loyalist.
Well, you can say we’ve turned the corner.
Logitech has just announced the G920, its first-ever force feedback racing wheel for the Xbox One (and PC), in advance of next week’s E3. Equipped with a dual-motor force feedback transmission with anti-backlash helical gearing, the G920 is designed for precise control, durability, and a realistic simulation of the experience of driving a racing car.
The G920 definitely goes a long way towards making you think you’re at the controls of a real racing car. The wheel rim is swathed in real hand-stitched leather; not only that, but there are RPM indicator LEDs on the unit as well, giving the player (or, should I say, driver) a visual cue as to when to change gear. Speaking of changing gear, there are stainless steel paddle shifters just behind the spokes of the wheel, which are perfect for F1 sim racers. The G920 is even compatible with the optional Driving Force Shifter unit (sold separately). The wheel also has a full complement of Xbox buttons, including the D-pad.
Logitech’s newest steering wheel controller, of course, comes complete with a three-pedal unit, so games that still allow the driver to control the clutch will be able to do so properly.
The G920 is expected to be available in October 2015; MSRP is $399.99. The Driving Force Shifter optional add-on, meanwhile, should be available right around the same time. Suggested retail price for that is $59.99.
