Are you a Michael Jackson fan? Have you ever listened to “Billie Jean” and wish you were her – or better yet, watched the “Thriller” music video and have been dying to explore that environment ever since? Well, it looks like you’re not going to have to dream about such things for much longer, as believe it or not… a Michael Jackson MMO game is in the works.
The first thought that came to my mind when I first heard about this was that it was a joke, but alas, it’s not. In what might be the first time an MMO has been dedicated to a single person, “Planet Michael” is set to be released at some point next year, and is being published by SEE Virtual Worlds, and developed by MindArk as part of its Entropia Universe… universe.
It’s hard to picture that even Michael’s biggest fans would jump into something so… strange, but it’s hard to say, given that online worlds such as Second Life and of course Entropia Universe are beaming at the seams with players. So why not indulge yourself into a world designed around Michael’s songs? It’s an interesting concept, I’ll give it that.
Like so many other MMOs out there today, Planet Michael will be free to play, but will include a micro-transaction system to buy what, I’m not sure. Then there’s the purpose of the game… the quests, the interactivity. It’s going to take a lot of work to create captivating gameplay, that’s for sure.
“In building a space worthy of those global connections, we envisioned a magical, enjoyable place that will capture that zest for fun and life that was at Michael’s very core,” said Martin Biallas, SEE Virtual Worlds’ CEO, in the announcement. “Throughout his extensive career, the King of Pop was well-known for his visionary contributions to music, dance, fashion, entertainment and philanthropy, and it was critical that we somehow incorporate all of those elements into the game.”
