It may not ultimately be called the Xbox 720, but it seems like Microsoft’s next major console announcement will happen at E3 in June. Though this has been speculated for a while, it’s further pushed by the fact that Microsoft’s Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, has just posted a countdown clock for the event along with three simple words: “And it’s on…“
While the fact that a new Xbox console is en route isn’t much of a secret, what it’s going to bring to the table certainly is. At this point, it’s all left up to speculation. Given the advances in technology, we’d imagine that 1080p games would be standard, and the graphics capabilities much closer to today’s mainstream PCs. But there’s not only performance to consider. Will we see a new gamepad? Any sort of new peripheral that aims to set the console apart? What about the console’s media capabilities?
It’s not like we haven’t been waiting a while already, but these questions can’t be answered quite yet. However, there’s little doubt more information will leak out well in advance of E3. Until then, speculate away.
